Martyrdom
In 1788, during the Ottoman wars in the Balkans, Ottoman forces attacked the monastery of Mostanica and killed many of its monks. According to the Serbian account, Theodore was among them: when he refused demands to renounce his Christian faith, he was burned alive near the monastery.
By tradition his right hand was reported to have been preserved unharmed from both the fire and from decay, a circumstance that was received as a sign of his sanctity.
